Jonathan 7 BIGELOW


16251.27      Jonathan 7 BIGELOW, son of James 6 ( James 5 , James 4 , Jonathan 3 , Joshua 2, John 1), and Betsy (DAVIS) BIGELOW, was born at Bloomfield, Somerset, ME on 17 October 1811. About 1832 he married Melissa Abbe, daughter of Amos and Patty (Abbe) Abbe, his cousin. She was born 1814 and died 27 February 1854 leaving him with 7 children ranging in years from 4 to 20. 5 children had preceded Melissa in death. In 1855, with his two youngest children, he emigrated to the territory of Kansas, the children soon dying of fever. He was active among the "Free State Men" and was an associate of Capt. John Brown. He was in service during the Civil War and later died, in July 1868; from injuries received in the Army.
