Samuel Smith 7 Bigelow was born February 23, 1835 in Ticonderoga,
Essex, NY, and died 1908 in Bryon Williams, OH. He married ROBY M. CHAPMAN
August 16, 1855 in Milo, OH, daughter of GEORGE CHAPMAN and NARCISSA HOPKINS.
She was born February 6, 1836 in Quebec Province. There is a dispute about
Roby's birthplace. Howe's genealogy says she was born in New York,
but descendents say she was born in Quebec Province, on February 6, 1836.
She is alleged to belong to the Chapman family of "Johnny Appleseed" fame
and most certainly descends from the Chapmans of CT. As a small child Samuel
moved to Farmer, Defiance, Ohio. Samuel moved to Aspen, CO in the heyday
of the mineral boom and was living there as a miner, in the 1880's. Elizabeth
Beglinger Von Suskil, told me that Great Grandpa Samuel was a friend of Abraham
Lincoln's during the Civil War, and that was why he named his son, after
him.
