Here's a bit more about J.W. Bigelow. He's a bit confusing as he's known as "Joseph", "Warren" and "J.W." in different records. He farmed
in Bureau County, Illinois, both at Macon and Indiantown. After the death of his father, Aholiab, his mother Rebecca, brother, Ariel
Tinkham and sisters Ellen and Mary lived with him (see 1860 census for Bureau County).
Joseph W. married America Young in Mercer County, Illinois on 28 August, 1879. They had three children: Edna (m. Wm. C. Maxwell); Anna
"Annie" L. (m. Alva A. Bethel) and E. Warren. They moved to Rush Hill, Audrain County, Missouri in the 1880's, where J.W. farmed. Joseph W.
died there on 20 September, 1884 (leaving America about 1 month pregnant with Anna) and is buried in Laddonia Cemetery, Audrain
County, Missouri. America died on 28 August 1910 and is buried beside him.

Good evening from Australia.
I found your email address on the Bigelow Society pages and hope you are able to help me.
With another I am researching the  lives of Americans who came to Australia during the gold rush years of the 1850s and into a region of the colony of Victoria.
Joseph Bigelow was one such man who arrived with 3 cousins.
I am trying to distinguish which Joseph came here.   Starting in Somerset County Maine (where his other cousins originated) I found Joseph W Bigelow son of Aholiab Bigelow, born c 1826.
I found J W Bigelow arriving back in New York in the mid 1850s and have unearthed him living in Illinois - his father died there in 1855.
There was another Joseph in the Somerset County area, born in 1804, but I am started with the younger one as most of the men arrived in their early 20s as did the other Bigelow men.
Do you know anything of this Joseph or can tell me how I can find out if he is mentioned in any of the Bigelow genealogy books written.
Sorry to bother you, but I am afraid I have to start somewhere - and Joseph has been rather elusive to this point.
Regards Denise  Australia

Some more information on Rebecca Bray. She was born in 1803 in Somerset Co., Maine and died at Onawa, Monona, Iowa in 1882. She and
Aholiab were married in 1820 at Bloomfield, Somerset, ME (according to an IGI report from Family Search).  I am enclosing the Rev. War
pension application of her father, Joseph Bray, where Rebecca's age, etc. is listed on page 5 (at the bottom).
Rebecca Bray last appears in the Franklin, Monona, Iowa 1870 US Census as a widow. She was probably visiting her daughter Ellen Bigelow
Kimball after the birth of her grandson Alfred in July of that year (census was taken 4 Aug).

While perusing your site today, I discovered a reference to my great-great-great grandfather, Aholiab Bigelow.  In the text of this reference, I dicovered a blank among the names of his children "R_____(illegible).  This should read "Rosilla."  Rosilla (my great-great grandmother) was born April 13, 1834, and married John Sylvanus Robinson, son of Josiah Robinson, in 1857.  They built a homestead in Neponset, Bureau County, llinois where they reared 3 children, Arthur "Cap" Robinson, Richard Warren Robinson (my great grandfather), and Lottie May Robinson.  Rosilla (Rose) Bigelow Robinson died in November 1891 (of dysentery from drinking bad water at the Bureau Co. Fair) and is buried in the Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset, IL.
My father is currently undertaking the preservation of the grave stone of Aholiab Bigelow, which we unearthed at the Buda, IL cemetery several years ago.
I hope that this information can be of help to you.  Please contact me if you require documentation of any of the above facts.
Sincerely,
Nicholas C. Stabler
