Robert James 9 BIGELOW

15923.7352      Robert James 9 BIGELOW, son of Lebbeus Loomis 8 ( Lebbeus Loomis 7 , Israel 6 , Isaac 5 , Isaac 4, Isaac 3, Samuel 2, John 1 ) and  Percilla (MILLER) BIGELOW, was born at Dubuque co., Iowa 26 August 1860.  He married 05 April 1882 Emaline "Emma" Coast Thomas. She was born 18 July 1864/5 in Venango co, PA, the daughter of John and Clara (  ) Thomas. They resided at Parker City and had two children.  Robert James Bigelow was a well known oil contractor and producer in Pennsylvania, California and Texas during the early days of the oil industry.  He, with his brother, Charley, opened the famous Rosenberry Field (Pennsylvania) which produced many thousands of barrels of high grade oil.  A Parkers Landing, Pennsylvania newspaper article published in July 1941, stated "The Bigelow brothers will always be remembered as honest, upright men by all with whom they were associated".
     He is buried in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. Robert died 27 July 1941 in Amarillo (see obit and stone). Emaline died 03 August 1956 in Los Angeles, CA.

15923.7352.2    Karl Kenneth 10 Bigelow, son of Robert James 9 , etc, and Emeline "Emma" Coast (Thomas) Bigelow was born 24 June 1886 at Parkers Landing, Parker City,  PA.  He married Clara Jane "Nanny" Daugherity on 21 December 1909 in Dayton, New Mexico.  They were parents of six children, 5 boys and 1 girl who died as an infant. Clara Jane (Daugherity) was born 30 June 1888 in Pine Springs, TX, the daughter of William Franklin and Mary Charlene (Shields) Daugherity.  Karl Kenneth Bigelow learned the oil business from his father, Robert James, and his uncle, Charles Amon, who discovered and opened the famous Rosenberry Field in Pennsylvania in the early years of the oil business.  He and his father were pioneer oilmen in California and Texas for many years.  Karl Kenneth died 06 February 1986, in Monterey Park, California.  He is buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Whittier, CA.  His wife, Clara Jane, died 16 August 1982, in Merced, California, and is also buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Karl Kenneth retired in 1943 and he and Clara moved from TX to CA where he was employed as a steam engineer by a Los Angeles based state-wide creamery producer and distributor. He retired a second time in 1956.

15923.73522.1     William Harrold, b 04 Mar 1911 Artesia, NM; d _____ ;  On 01 Jan 1937 William married Bette Chandler by whom he had one child. He married (2) on 17 April 1948 to Arlene Brown, daughter of Joseph Andrew and Elizabeth Marie (Davies) Brown. She was born 13 Jul 1911 in Oakland, CA. William was Manager, Covercar Corporation. William and Betty had one child.  No children second Marriage.William graduated from Amarillo, TX High School in 1929.  As a young man he worked in the oil fields of the Texas Panhandle with his father, Karl Kenneth, in the early 1930s.  He moved to Southern California in 1937, where he was employed by the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation throughout world War II. He was divorced from his first wife in 1945 and married 17 april 1948 Arline Brown in Monterey Park, CA. By this time he had joined the Covercar Corporation, a Major nation-wide industrial laundry business.  He was the Chief Purchasing Agent for their Uniform Division when he retired in 1973.  He and Arline, then relocated to Central California where they lived until her death in 1996.  He now lives with son, Berle Chandler, in Salinas,CA.   

15923.73522.2     Orvis Karl, b 17 Oct 1912 in Amarillo, TX; d before 2013;  He married Olivia Belle Cargile, daughter of William Ira and Adeline Ethele (Tidwell) Cargile.  Olivia was born 03 Jun 1914 in Birmingham, AL.  She was a Secretary and Realtor Associate.  William was Business Manager and Comptroller.  He was with the Petroleum Industry in Beirut, Lebanon for fifteen years.  They had no children.  Orvis Karl graduated from Amarillo High School in 1929 and Amarillo college in 1933. He was an accountant with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) from 1933 to 1935 in New Mexico, TX and CO.  He was employed by Rowan and Co. and Knoll Transportation company from 1935 to 1940.  At this time he moved to California and was accountant with Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation until 1947.  He joined the Trans-Arabian Pipeline Co.in late 1947 and was assigned to their Headquarters in Bierut, Lebanon.  He retired in 1963 and returned to the US.  Soon after settling in Carmel, CA, he was appointed business manager of the Carmel Sanitary district until his second retirement in 1982.  He and wife still live in Carmel CA.

15923.73522.5t     Karl K. "KK" Bigelow, b 29 October 1921 Stanton, TX; d _____ ;  On 14 Sept 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii, he married Marilyn A. S. Bradbury. They have two sons and one daughter.  KK graduated from Amarillo High School, Amarillo, TX, in 1939.  He completed two years of graduate education at the University of Colorado prior to joining the U.S.M.C. as a Naval Aviator in 1942.  He was assigned to various stations in the Pacific Theatre during W.W.II.  He was the Naval Air Attache, Bonn, Germany when he retired in 1964 to accept a position with the Harvey Aluminum Corporation as their representative in Germany.  He was assigned to the home office of the Martin-Marietta Corporation in Washington, D.C. in 1968.  Retired as a Vice-president of Martin-Marietta corporation in 1992. He and his wife now reside on Sanibel Island, Florida.   

15923.73522.6t    Robert Berle, b 31 Oct 1925 in Amarillo, TX; d ____ ;  He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942 and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during W. W. II.  He was discharged from the U.S.Navy in 1949 and was commissioned in the United States Air Force in 1950.  His overseas assignments included Guam, Okinawa, Labrador, England, and Vietnam and Germany.  He retired from the USAF in 1980 with rank of Colonel.  On 14 May 1955 he married Marcia Gusman in Spokane, WA where they reside in 1999.  They had four children: Mary, Opal, Thelma, and Kenneth Bigelow (not sure of order).
Kenneth died at the age of 18 in Amarillo co, TX.
   



\15923.73522.4    Edgar Daugherity 11 Bigelow, son of Karl Kenneth 10 Bigelow, etc, and Clara Jane (Daugherity) Bigelow., was born 18 October 1916 Amarillo, TX; He married  Juanna Jo Wigham, on 03 March 1943 in the chapel of the Walla Walla, Washington Army Air Base.  Edgar was in Military service December 1941 to February 1968 with the USAF (initially the Army Air Corps).  He retired as Colonel.  He received his BA from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas in 1939 (MAGNA CUM LAUDE).  He was Captain of the HSU football team (selected as All-American for smaller colleges and universities in 1938) and Vice President of his Senior Class. Appointed 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army AirCorps in May 1942.  Assigned to Eighth Air Force in England 1943-1945 during W.W.II.  He entered the Intelligence field of operations in 1950 and was given assignments in Turkey and South Vietnam during the period 1954 through 1963.  Retired from the USAF in 1968 with rank of Colonel. He was a partner in Bigelow Construction Company, Inc., selling and constructing vacation homes in northern Virginia 1970-1980.  He married Juanna Jo Wigham, daughter of Jack Hugh and Lila (Terry) Wigham.  She was born 12 June 1924 in Panhandle, Texas.  Lila was a Realtor.  They had three children.  Edgar graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934. He and Juanna  resided in Marina, California.  Edgar died Sunday, 22 September 2013, eleven months after his beloved wife of 70 years, Juanna Jo Wigham Bigelow.

Edgar Daugherity Bigelow, 96, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013.
     Services be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, in Old Post Chapel in Fort Myer. Colonel Bigelow and his wife will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
     Edgar died at 96, eleven months after his beloved wife of 70 years, Juanna Jo Wigham Bigelow. He was born in Amarillo, the son of Clara Jane Daugherity and Karl Kenneth Bigelow.
     Survivors include three children, Jimmy Karl Bigelow, Teresa Jane Telles and David Hugh Bigelow; seven grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and two brothers, Lt. Col. KK Bigelow of Florida and Col. Robert Berle Bigelow of Washington.
