Hi, I'm Lindsey, 14 years old , daughter of Ronald James
Bigelow , who is the son of Byron Bigelow of Boise, Idaho. Ron ,
Ellis(my mom), Lauren(my older sister), and I live in Houston Tx. My
dad has a student from UT (University of Texas) working with him for the
summer. Her name is Robyn Bigelow and she is from San Antonio. Tomorrow night
they are going to dinner and its kind of obvious by the name they are related,
distantly related, but still related. I was wondering if at all possible
you knew a way for us to find out how closely she would be related to us.
I'll give you a brief history from our sector of the family.
Byron James Bigelow born 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT married Marjorie
Elizabeth Miller. They had 7 children, my dad the oldest. Yeah, I
know I'm asking for info on Robyn; I just thought itd be nice to give you
a friendly hello from the Texas Bigelow Family. Anyway I was just
curious about Robyn, it doesn't matter how long it takes , I was just
wondering.
anyway thanx for your time and i hope i hear from u soon.
Thanx and all my family says hello
Sincerely- Lindsey Bigelow

Ruth Bigelow

From: "Barry Biglow" < babiglow@shaw.ca >
For the third volume I note that the Toronto Globe & Mail in ‘Lives
Lived’ Page L6 for ‘Feb 26, 2009 has a “lives lived” for Edward
Graham Ferguson whose wife was Ruth Bigelow. Two
children Elaine and Lorne were listed . Elaine wrote the piece with
a married name of Rankine.. They farmed in in the Gleichen area of
Southern Alberta
For your information
Barry Biglow
Husband, father, grandfather, farmer extraordinaire.
Born June 16, 1916 in Calgary
Died October 24, 2008 in Calgary of natural causes, aged 92
Ed came as an infant to
live with his adoptive parents on a farm in the Gleichen, Alta., area. His
adoptive father was a farmer, horse trader with the nearby Blackfoot and
a Canadian Pacific Railway land agent. Ed played goalie for the local hockey
team, finished school and helped out on the farm. He always claimed he had
an uneventful youth. When Ed was 22, he met the love of his life, Ruth Bigelow.
She was staying with relatives at a farm in the area and he would ride his
horse Topsy to court her. They were married in 1938 and raised two children,
Elaine and Lorne. Ed and Ruth celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before
his death. They had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ed lived
and farmed in the same area until his retirement. Together Ed and Ruth owned
a mixed farming operation, growing grains and raising cattle and pigs.
On the farm, they had hired men in the summers. Thanks
to Ruth's good cooking, Ed never had trouble getting help. In the evenings,
they all played baseball or horseshoes. During the Second World War, a
German prisoner of war was assigned to the farm. After the war, he returned
to Germany and corresponded with Ruth and Ed until his death. He also came
back to Gleichen for a visit.
It was a good thing Ed lived on a farm. Along with
tending to the fields and livestock, he looked after his family's menagerie.
At one time there 'were 22 cats. a pony, a pet pig and a pet steer that
never went to market and died of old age. There were also three orphaned
baby lambs, bunnies rescued from the fields, family dogs and several peacocks.
Ed was active in the community, gave his time to many
endeavours and received many certificates of recognition. He served as
mayor of Cleichen and was a Masonic Lodge member, a lifelong Legion member,
a school board trustee and a justice of the peace for the RCMP. He received
the commemorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of
Canada.
Ed and Ruth travelled extensively. After they retired
from the farm, they especially enjoyed helping a friend operate a fishing
lodge on Great Bear Lake, close to the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories.
Ruth helped in the kitchen and Ed helped everywhere else. Ed spent 11
summers at the lodge, Ruth somewhat less.
Ed lived his life as a personification of how a
life should be lived. His family was a delight to him, as he was to them,
and he was interested in all their doings. He was loved and adored by
his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
