Son of the late L. Raymond and Ailleen Whitney Bigelow, Jr., he
lived most of his life in Rutland, MA. He was the owner and
operator of R.L. Bigelow Construction Company for over 35 years.
He was superintendent and board member of Rural Cemetery in
Rutland. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War (United States Navy)
and he served with the Sea Bees in the Naval Reserves for 32
years. He was a member of American Legion Post 310 and he was a
member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons. His funeral was held
at the First Congregational Church in Rutland on November 20,
2006. He was survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean E. Scales
Bigelow; two sons, Eric R. Bigelow and Bruce E. LaBoffa (Andre);
three daughters, Elisa J. Borowy, Pamela K. Banach (Richard) and
Cindy L. Purcell (Ted); a step-daughter, Linda J. Hetu (Robert);
two sisters, Pauline Spencer and Marjorie MacCallum (James); nine
grandchildren; and an extended family of relatives. He was
preceded in death by a son, Brian K. LaBoffa (2005).
