On 26 April 1944 in Cadillac, MI, he married Frances Emma Strom.
She
was born 04 January 1925 in Cherry Grove twp., Wexford co, MI, the
daughter
of Albion and Laura Belle (Hodges) Strom. She was a housewife and
Leon was a farmer and U. S. Forest Service employee. He was a
Sgt.
in the U. S. Army. They were Living in Hoxeyville 1984 and had 4
children.
Leon C. Bigelow of Hoxeyville died Friday, 31
August
2001 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, MI. He was 85. (see obit)

My grandfather's name was Charlie Arthur Bigelow. His father was John.

"HOXEYVILLE Leon C. Bigelow of Hoxeyville died
Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 85.
He was born Sept. 14, 1915 in Gratiot County to Ernest and Goldia
(Woodward) Bigelow. At the age of 5 he moved to Hoxeyville where he
lived until his
death. He married Frances Strom in 1944 while on leave from the Army.
He
served during World War II in Panama and the China-Burma-India theater.
He
was in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man and retired from
the
U.S. Forest Service after 24 years. He was also involved in Henderson
Township as the supervisor for many years. He was on the board of the
Wexford County Soil Conservation District, Wexford County Farm Bureau,
and South Branch
School Board, and was a member of the Hoxeyville Senior Citizens Group.
He
enjoyed gardening, reading Westerns, hunting and making homemade ice
cream
with his grandchildren. He operated his farm and drove tractor until
his
death.
He is surviced by his wife, Frances; two daughters Leone (Thomas) Grams
of Muskegon and Deborah (William) Ray of Waynesville, N.C.; two sons,
Ronald (Deborah) Bigelow of Mattawan and Leon II (Deborah) Bigelow of
Hoxeyville; eight grandchildren: Lori and Lisa Grams, Danielle and
Cristie Ray, Ryan
and Mackenzie Bigelow, and Christopher and Patrick Bigelow;
step-grandson
Daniel (Pamela) Grams; and two step-great-grandchildren and a sister
Evelyn
Platz of Cadillac; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceeded
in
death by his parents, five brothers: Claude, Ford, Lawrence, Howard,
and
Russell and two sisters, Neva Williams and Gladys Platz.
Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at the Peterson Funeral
Home in Cadillac. Burial was in Bankers Cemetery in Hoxeyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clayhill Christian Church or
to the American Cancer Society."

CADILLAC - Leon C. "Chip" Bigelow II of Cadillac died Monday, Feb. 25,
2008 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 54.
Mr. Bigelow was born June 11, 1953 in Cadillac
to Leon
C. and Frances E. (Strom) Bigelow. After graduating from Cadillac High
School
in 1971 and Western Michigan University in 1975, he married Deborah J.
Simpkins
May 22, 1976 at Sand Creek, Mich.
He had worked for Michigan Farm Bureau, Yoplait in
Reed City and for District 10 Health Department for several years. He
was a former Director of the Wexford County Soil and Conservation
District, Supervisor of Henderson Township for several terms and
enjoyed being a Deacon at Clayhill Christian Church. He was also a
local farmer.
His loved ones will always remember him for his
love of the land, his ready smiles and stories, his sense of humor,
difficulties with small engines, his calm and patient personality, and
his need to check the temperature of all the meals prepared. Most of
all they will always remember his greatest strength - his love of
family.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Bigelow of
Cadillac; sons, Christopher Bigelow and fiancee, Kimberly Edginton of
Columbus, Ohio, and Patrick Bigelow and friend, Erin Robertson of East
Lansing; mother Frances Bigelow of Cadillac; brother, Ronald (Deb)
Bigelow of Mattawan, Mich.; sisters, Leone (Thomas) Grames of Muskegon
and Deborah (William) Ray of Waynesville, N.C.; 10 nieces and nephews;
numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and more friends than can be ¨
counted.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leon
Clayton Bigelow in 2001.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday,
Feb. 28, 2008 at the Peterson Funeral Home, Cadillac, with Rev. Robert
Mattern officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today)
at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Bankers Cemetery in
Hoxeyville in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be
made to LOVE, Inc., Shepard’s Table or the charity of your choice.
