Charles Robert "Bob" Bigelow, late of Dorchester, MA, was my husband
and member of the Bigelow family.
My husband died this last February, and I was cleaning out his desk when
I found some notes on the Bigelow family from his father, Harold Evan
9 Bigelow.

Charles was a diabetic.
He was a career man [20 years] in the U. S. Navy. He served in the
Korean Conflict, the Cuban Picket Ships, Gemini Recoveries and Vietnam.
He served on board the U.S.S. Wasp and participated in the recovery of three
of the Gemini Space Shots.
He also participated in the evacuation of U. S. citizens from Lebanon when
war broke out there, and served on one of the picket ships which surrounded
Cuba resulting in the removal of Soviet missiles from Cuba.
He was active in Veterans' affairs, serving as Adjutant and commander of
the Neponset V.F.W. Post 5834, a member of the Rice Post 28 AMVETS, the American
Legion Old Dorchester Post 65, the Army Navy Onion USA, the Fleet Reserve
Association and the Dorchester Allied Veterans Council.
An avid railroad enthusiast, he was a Founder of the Hoosac Tunnel Museum
[now the North Adams Historical Society], a member of the Berkshire Scenic
Railroad, Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, Seashore Trolley Museum,
Shelburne Trolley Museum, the Branford Trolley Museum, the 470 Railroad Club
and the Boston and Maine Historical Society.
His knowledge and love of railroading served him well as a member of the
Dorchester Allied Neighborhood Associations' Old Colony Railroad Committee,
the Red Line Noise Abatement Committee and the Neponset River Committee.
He was a member and former President of the Massachusetts Delta Radio Club
and a member of the Massachusetts Sideband Association.
He was an Incorporator of the Dorchester Day Parade Committee and served
two terms as its Treasurer.
He was elected and served as the Chief Marshal of the Dorchester Day Parade
in 1995.
Bob is buried in the Veterans' Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts.
