Clarence Eugene Rogers 9 BIGELOW



16313.1333      Clarence Eugene Rogers 9 BIGELOW, son of Charles Pierce 8  ( Amasa Strong 7 , Eli , Amasa 5 , David 4 , Lt. John 3 , Joshua 2, John 1), and Margaret (ROGERS) BIGELOW, was born on 19 December 1865 Great Bend, PA.  He married Ida May Pfistner in 1893. Clarence was in business, a lawyer and lumberman. He attended Valparaiso, Indiana College, graduating in business and law.  He learned the lumber business in Grand Rapids and throughout the midwest, then was an official in Grand Rapids Brass Co.  He next bought a grocery company and a shingle company at Big Rapids.  He purchased a hotel and summer resort at Hess Lake, Newaygo co, but this was lost through a fire some years later.  In 1911 he purchased an interest oin Consolidated Chemical Co., in Grand Rapids, later acquiring the entire business.  From 1901 to 1903 he was deputy comptroller, tax-title and abstract clerk for the city, working actively to build and maintain Buchanan sewer.  He is best remebered in Grand Rapids for building Bigelow Ball Park, which from the 1930's until after World War II, was a prominent sports arena.  He also published volumes of his own poetry. Clarence died 20 February 1950 age 84 at Wisconsin Rapids, WI.  He was buried 24 February 1950 at Graceland Mausuleum, Grand Rapids, Kent co, MI.

Thomas Frederick 11 Bigelow, son of Charles Frederick 10 Bigelow and Norma Keth Hart, was born 04 October 1918 Grand Rapids, MI. He married Alice Everett Crume on 28 September 1946 in Grand Rapids. She was born 04 April 1927, the daughter of Everett and Stella (Russling) Crume. She died in 1981 Grand Rapids (obit) age 54. Unknown death date for Thomas F.
