Betty Jean Bigelow, age 93, of
Vestaburg, passed away at the Lakeview Terrace on Wednesday,
August 2, 2023. She was born in Montcalm County on August, 21,
1929, the daughter of Amos and Rhea Throop. Betty was predeceased
by her husband and father of her children, Robert Bigelow in 1987.
She married Robert in Vestaburg on July 24, 1948. Together they
had three daughters, Kathleen, Ann, and Robin. Betty was
the perfect homemaker, she loved to cook wonderful meals and was
an excellent house keeper. During the holidays, it was tradition
for family to gather at her home for celebration and warm home
cooked meals. She made the best pumpkin pie. Betty was passionate
about cooking and loved to share her meals with others. For many
years she worked at Vestaburg Community Schools as a food director
preparing meals for the many children coming through the
cafeteria; not only did she loved feeding the children, but she
also loved to be around them. Aside from her passion for cooking,
she was also very passionate about her family. Her whole life
revolved around her family. She enjoyed spending time with her
family, especially when it involved her grandchildren. Betty loved
going to her grandchildren's sporting events to cheer them on.
Although Betty did not have many hobbies, she enjoyed going to
church. For many years she attended Church of Christ- Vestaburg
and Ferris Church of Christ. Betty is survived by her children,
Kathleen (Michael) Wilson, Ann (Monte) Stratton, and Robin
(Daniel) Mack, all of Vestaburg; grandchildren, Todd (Brittani)
Wilson, Mark Wilson, Scott (Jennifer) Stratton, Gregory (Amber)
Stratton, Michelle (Victor) Plath; eight great grandchildren; two
great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Rhea Throop; husband,
Robert Bigelow; brothers, Jack Throop, Arden Throop; sisters,
Doreen Wood, Colleen Bigelow. A Memorial Service for Betty will
take place at the Ferris Church of Christ on Tuesday, August 15,
2023 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will take place an hour prior to the
service. Rev. Keith Mitchell will serve as officiant. Private
family interment will take place at Richland Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be directed to Ferris Church of Christ.
