The Bigelow Society has used the name Custer in referring to wife Lydia, etc. Notes by Marguerite Atteberry Emmons dispute this to my satisfaction.(see below)

I am very grateful to you and your website for all
the marvelous Bigelow research and would like to repay you in a small way.
My husband is a descendant of Stephen and Mary Bigelow Spooner. This
may be old news to you:
Stephen Spooner was born as you know 9 Mar 1833
in New York and m. Mary 22 Feb 1855 in Madison County. Their five daughters
were: Etta E. b. ca 1858, Ida Mabel b. 1850, Lucinda b. ca 1863, Lydia
b. ca 1864, and Carrie E. b. 1867.
Ida Mabel m 28 Oct 1880 Will Triplett ( Will born 26 Mar 1861 Newark, Licking County, OH; d. 16 Feb 1934 Columbus, OH) 28 Oct 1880
Triplett-Spooner By William A. Athey, J.P., at his office in London, Ohio, October 28th, 1880, Mr. William A. Triplett and Miss Mabel Spooner, of Plain City, Ohio. "London Times," October 29, 1880
Ida and Will had sons:
Morris L. Triplett 28 Jan 1882, d. 1908 Panama Canal Zone
Ray Leon Triplett 13 Nov 1883, d. 25 Oct 1977 Clearwater, FL
Cleon Ashford Triplett 20 Jan 1887, d. 4 Apr 1972
Ida died 06 June 1889 in Bluffton, Allen County, OH of kidney disease
Carrie E. Spooner m. Lawrence McCullough 15 Apr 1897 in Madison County.
Stephen Spooner was a laborer in Franklin County in 1850 and single.
In 1860
he and Mary were living in Pleasant Valley Township. Mary and Stephen
Spooner were living in Darby Township of Madison County for the censuses of
1870, 1880 and 1900. The census said Mary had borne five children and
3 of
them survived. We know Ida Mabel had died by then and I suspect Lucinda
was
the other one who had died by then. I found Mary nor Stephen of
them in the
census of 1910, but haven't found death records, either.
