Lucy 8 BIGELOW


15923.231      Lucy 8 BIGELOW, dau of Russel 7 ( Russell 6 , Isaac 5 , Isaac 4, Isaac 3, Samuel 2, John 1 ) and Margaret (IRWIN) BIGELOW, was born 31 July 1818 at Oxford, Montgomery co., OH.  (She registered this at an Old Settler's Meeting at Bismark Grove, Kansas on 15th and 16th of Sept 1879).  She married on 18 February 1838 John McIntire Armstrong.  He was born 07 October 1813 in OH.  John studied at Norwalk Seminary and later studied law and was admitted to the Bar in Cincinnati, OH, April 1839. They moved to Wyandotte Territory (now Kansas City, Kansas, with the Wyandotte Indians where he taught school and was very active in the Methodist Church and worked with the government in the interest of Indian Affairs.  Being active in Wyandotte (Indian) affairs resulted in being adopted by the tribe.  Lucy was known as the "Wyandotte bride."  John continued working for the Indians. Because of his legal knowledge other Indians and Indian nations employed him to prosecute their claims against the United States.  He died at the home of his mother-in-law, Margaret (Irwin) Bigelow on 11 April 1852. while on his way to Washington City.  His widow died 01 January 1892 at Kansas City, Wyandotte co., KS and is buried at Quindaro cemetery.  His mother, Sarah (Zane) Armstrong was half Wyandotte Indian--her mother being princess Myeerah, of Zanes Town, Logan co., OH.  They had six children.
