Elizabeth 8 BIGELOW

15923.737      Elizabeth 8 BIGELOW, dau of Lebbeus Loomis 7 ( Israel 6 , Isaac 5 , Isaac 4, Isaac 3, Samuel 2, John 1 ) and  Elizabeth (CUSTER) BIGELOW, was born in Adamsburg, Westmoreland, PA on 22 October 1822
Elizabeth married first: John Fox 12/13 May 1852, married second: Porter Shyock 02 Jan 1854, married third: John Bulick.  They lived at Tipton, Pennsylvania.  No children listed for any of the three marriages.  First husband died after only 2 years of marriage.  Don Bigelow of Grand Rapids asked Roger Jones who sent an inquiry via e-mail, if the Elizabeth who married 3 times was the Elizabeth Bigelow who married John Bulick.  He said it was.  His mother recalled a Bigelow family living in Belleville that were second cousins to her.  Maud Henninger, daughter of Solomon and Mary Ann (Bulick) Henninger of Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania (now "Mechanics Street" in Belleville) married Clay Bigelow and moved to Belleville.  My mother said they had a large family and one of their daughter's, Althea was her best friend.  I'm including as much of this family outline as I can without over-burdening you. (in genealogist's file May 1998).
Peter Sassaman married Elizabeth.  Daughter Elizabeth Sassaman (or Sausman) 1813-1885 m.*Michael G. Henninger 1813-1888.  John and Elizabeth (Bigelow) Bulick (her third marriage)

*Their daughter Elizabeth 1846-1917, married James Moore in 1864. and daughter Flora May Moore born1885 married Howard Mitchell born 19 Feb 1886 - Dec. 1965.

*Their son, Solomon Henninger 1852-1922 married MARY ANN BULICK. born Mar 1849--1914 married 20 Jul 1876, 7 children:  Martha, Thomas M., James Bulick Henninger 1883-1970,William A. 1886-1967, Maud B. born 1888 m. CLAY BIGELOW born about 1888, Frank G. born 1890 and Virlny B. Henninger 1853-1932.

*Their daughter, Margaret Emma Henninger 1853-1932 m.2 Aug 1873 Stewart Wilson 1845-1909.  Children:  Hoeward, Chester, Stewart, Lottie Eschenbach Wilson, William Franklin Wilson, Jesse Ellesworth Wilson, Samuel Ray Wilson, Mary Maude, Benjamin, John, Margaret E., Sophia Ellen, George Michael Wilson.

*Their daughter, Anna Mary Henninger 1855-1940 married Joseph (John) Franklin Bulick 1853-1903 m. 1874.  Children:

Many thanks for your efforts and research on the Bigelow family in America. 

I have an interesting conundrum. 
I am a descendant of John Fox and Elizabeth "Bigelow". They were married in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1853. I have attached a copy of their marriage record to this email. 
Now, I suspect Elizabeth "Bigelow '' was an illegitimate daughter of one of the Bigelow's in the area, as her father is unlisted on the marriage record. Her mother was listed as Lydia Bare/Bear. 
Moreover, I took an AncestryDNA test and discovered that I share DNA with a number of descendants of Israel Bigelow and Eunice Kathan. While this leads me to believe that one of their sons or grandsons was the biological father of Elizabeth Bigelow Fox, I lack proper documentation as conclusive proof. 
By any chance do you have any information on this family that may put me on the correct trail?......James Malone

Using the information you sent me, I was able to do a fair amount of traditional genealogical research. I have come to the conclusion that Elizabeth Bigelow Fox (my maternal ancestor) and the Elizabeth Bigelow Shyrock/Bulick, the daughter of Lebbeus Bigelow, are two different Elizabeth Bigelow's. If you are interested in adding this information to your website, I can send you documentation proving this to be a fact.

However, as I mentioned previously, Elizabeth Bigelow, my ancestor, is still most certainly a descendant of the Israel Bigelow family. I have triangulated segments of DNA with other descendants of Israel Bigelow, as well as AncestryDNA "ThruLines" connecting me to 12 Israel Bigelow descendants. Unfortunately--besides DNA evidence, the Fox/Bigelow marriage record and her son James O. Fox's death certificate listing Elizabeth Bigelow as their mother-- the identity of the Bigelow son that Elizabeth descends from remains unknown.
Funny enough, a cousin of my father's, Merrill Bigelow, is also a direct descendant of Israel Bigelow-- making us double cousins.
