(BARNES) BIGELOW, was born 14 February 1871 Chicago, IL She
painted flowers with watercolors and exhibited in several galleries
around the Chicago.. She taught art at Hyde Park High School in
Chicago for more than 40 years. Florence died 26 April 1951
Hinsdale, DuPage County, IL;
Miss Florence E. Bigelow, 80, of 4016 Grand Ave., Western
Springs, was a retired art teacher who had taught 40 years at Hyde
Park High School. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Folger
Bigelow, a well known artist and founder of the Chicago Art
Institute. Her mother was Charlotte Mariah Barnes ("Lottie").
While teaching at Hyde Park High School, Miss Bigelow studied at the
Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Chicago Art Institute in the
evenings.
