This is Paul Bigelow, and I'm writing to add
a new listing to the Bigelow chain. There were two Orville
Bigelows in the Crown Point N.Y. area as you stated in the Bigelow
Genealogy one was Orville C. and one was Orville A.. According to
my father, his Grandfather was a teamster which according to the
research refers to Orville C.. According to my father, he later,
married a Hattie Pond of Addison County Vermont, who bore my
Grandfather one Henry Orville Bigelow, this is listed on the
Mormon ancestry web site this was probably after the 1880 cencus
had taken place. The one major question is, is why on my
grandfather's draft card for WWII, does it state that his birth
place was Port Henry, N.Y. the town in which Orville A. actually
lived, this is a really confusing detail to say the least. At
least I have now gotten the connection to the family line down to
a point where I can see the link.
The Bigelow Society Database has an Orville Bigelow, b abt
1850 Crown Point; m Hattie E. Pond (she b abt 1853 Shoreham,
VT; d 27 Dec 1887 Moriah, Essex co, NY, (34y 5m 17d), cause of
death Myelitis (from heart disease)). There is no connection
listed for the father and mother of this Orville (maybe son
of Ransom 7 (16164.14)
, "Orville A." but he has wives listed already). This info was
gathered from "Port Henry, New York Births, Bk 1, #285 and
479" and "Port Henry, New York Deaths, Bk 1, #400" as well as
other records.
Children of Orville and Hattie (Pond) Bigelow:
1. son Bigelow, b 12 Mar 1884; d _____ ;
2. Henry Orville Bigelow, b 25 Aug 1885; d _____ ;
3. dau Bigelow, b 02 Sept 1887; d _____;

Rod - Great job on the website, I've found it extremely
useful!
Ashley Bigelow of Crown Point, NY was my great-grandfather, and
I've followed through your Howe book reprints as far as the page
for his father, Ransom, but none of the links on Ransom's page
work. Also, I am being guided in my genealogical research by
my two 90-year old aunts, and they have given me some information
which I think will be in conflict with that
on the page for Ransom...I will follow-up after I've had a chance
to check vital statistics for those days. Seems that the
family tradition holds that brothers Ashley and Orville married
sisters Lasira and Luancia Ellithorpe, on the same day (12 Jan
1875). Nobody knows of any Louisa T. Russell. Also, I have
information coming on Ransom's third marriage. He is buried
in
White Church Cemetery, Crown Point, with his three wives.
Will be there next month.
More:
Just a brief follow-up on my e-mail of last month regarding my
gt.-gt.-uncle Orville A.(8)(16164.14B), son of Ransom(7), who was
reported as having married Louisa T. Russell, when family stories
have him marrying Luancia Ellithorpe in 1875. I have found,
by following through the info you have from Howe on the web-site,
that there was another Orville, who is also listed as marrying
Louisa T. Russell, and I believe that this is the actual marriage:
Orville C. (7) (16164.89), son of Ebenezer (6) (16164.8), would
have been first cousin to my Orville's father, Ransom (7)
(16164.14), and was listed on Ebenezer 6 page
(see ebe61648.htm ) as
having married this Louisa Russell, who was born 1845, d.
1908. Ironically, Orville C. and Orville A. both are listed
as having died in 1915, with the date for Orville C.'s death
stated as 01 Apr. 1915 (April Fool's Day!).
Weather permitting, my two very elderly aunts and I will be making
a tour of Crown Point, esp. of White Church Cem., for Veteran's
Day. We'll try to get as much information as possible from
the grave markers there, although I'm sure the marriage records
for Orville A. and my gt.-grand-father, Ashley (and their brides
Lasira and Luancia Ellithorpe) will be found in the Town
Clerk's office in either Crown Point, NY or Bridport, VT (where
the Ellithorpe family lived in 1875). I hope to make a
winter side-trip, mid-week during one of my hockey weekend
ventures to VT, to those Town offices to do
research, so I can absolutely verify information I've given you
earlier.
