James, 72, of Elwell, passed
away January 18, 2018 at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital in Mt.
Pleasant. He was the son of William and Dorothy (McCoy) Bigelow.
He was a 1963 graduate of Alma High
School and attended Michigan State University. He married Elaine
Jolley on August 7, 1965 in Alma.
In 1965 Jim earned his American Farmer Degree from the National
FFA and would later serve on the Alma FFA Alumni Advisory Board.
Jim was active with the Gratiot County 4-H and served on their
Board of Directors. He received an Outstanding Young Farmer award
from the Alma Jaycees.
Jim was a farmer all his life and spent many years raising sheep.
He was always taking time to plant pine, spruce, hardwood and
especially apple trees. He was affectionately known by his family
as, Jimmy Apple Seed.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and target shooting. He always looked
forward to meeting with friends for Sunday morning coffee.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine; two children,
Keith Bigelow, Karolyn (Mike) Pawson; five grandchildren, Mitch
(Amanda Sollman) Bigelow, Kati Pawson, Erica Bigelow, Evan
Bigelow, Rachel Pawson; and a sister, Dianna (Don) Dufresne.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter,
Hillary Bigelow.
Per Jims wishes a cremation has taken place and no services were
held at this time. Interment was held in Pritchard Cemetery,
Sumner Township.
