Robert Bigelow Obituary
Robert Roy "Bob" Bigelow passed away peacefully on Friday, July
16, 2021 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. He was born on September
8, 1926 to Charlie and Iris (Dean) Bigelow in Lansing, Michigan.
He quit high school when he was 16 to join the navy during WWII
but returned as an adult to school and received his diploma in
1972, something he was very proud of. While home on leave he met
the love of his life, Donna Nelson and they were married on
December 6, 1946. They lived in Elwell most of their married
life where they raised their five children. He is survived by a
brother Melvin, four children: Chuck (Sherri) of Stevens Point,
WI, Gaila Trowbridge, of Henderson, NC, Gloria (Mike) Knapp of
Higgins Lake and Kay (Emil) Richards of Alma, twelve
grandchildren several great grandchildren and great great
children as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Charlie and Iris, wife, Donna, son,
Douglas, and brothers Bill and Gail. He retired from Consumers
Power Company in 1984 as a supervisor with almost 30 years of
service. He and Donna wintered in Winter Haven for over 30 years
where they made many friends. They were a very sociable couple
and enjoyed traveling. They visited most of the states, Canada,
Mexico as well as a trip to Europe. Bob loved telling stories
and jokes, camping, canoeing, riding his Harley, going dancing
with Donna when younger and spending time at the cabin in the
UP. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and
friends. He was a good friend, husband and father and will be
missed by many. Per his wishes there will not be a funeral but a
memorial gathering will be held later. Interment will be held
later at Prichard Cemetery, Elwell. In lieu of flowers memorials
may be made to Gratiot County Commission on Aging or the Alma
VFW Post 1454 (noted veteran relief fund). The family would like
to thank Masonic Pathways and staff for the loving care they
have provided to our parents these past few years. Arrangements

Pritchard Cemetery; Elwell, Gratiot County, Michigan
Donna, 92, of Elwell passed
away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Masonic Pathways
in Alma. She was born in her grandparents' farmhouse in Elwell
to Russell and Aurilla (Humphrey) Nelson.
She graduated from Alma High School in 1945 and married Robert
R. Bigelow on December 6, 1946.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, son, Chuck (Sherri) of
Stevens Point, WI, daughters Gaila Trowbridge of Henderson, NC,
Gloria (Mike) Knapp of Higgins Lake, and Kay (Emil) Richards of
Alma, twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Aurilla,
brother, Dale, sisters Janis Miles and Carolyn Wyeth and son
Douglas.
Donna lived most of her life within a few miles of where she was
born but she loved to travel and had visited nearly every state,
Mexico, Canada and Europe. She enjoyed camping and riding her
motorcycle and going dancing with Bob when younger. She worked
at the Sears store in Alma for approximately 25 years where she
made many good friends. She was a good friend to many, a great
wife and mother and will be missed.
Per her wishes there will not be a funeral. Interment will be at
a later date at the Prichard Cemetery, Elwell.
