Published obituary
Emma McCann, 92, of Gardner in Johnson County, died October 9, 1987,
at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was a lifelong Gardner resident. Mrs McCann worked for the Reece
Hospital, Gardner, for seventeen years. She was a member of the
Gardner Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge
and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Martine L McCann, two daughters, Florence
L. Gillihan, and Betty Messer, and a sister, Mildred Bigelow, all of
Gardner; thirteen grandchildren; and forteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 pm Monday at the church; burial in the Gardner
Cemetery. Friends may call rom 7 to 8:30 pm today at the Bruce
Chapel, Gardner. The family suggests contributions to the church.

Published obituary
Martin Laurence McCann, 70, Gardner in Johnson County, died March
24, 1990, in the Life Care Center of Overland Park, 7541 Switzer
Street.
He was a lifelong Gardner residence. Mr McCann was a farmer and
worked as a postal clerk at the Main Post Office in Kansas City,
[Missouri], retiring from there in 1985. He was a member of the
Gardner Presbyterian Church and the Gardner Grange. He was an Army
Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion,
Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine McCann, and a son, James
McCann, both of the home; four daughters, Patricia Unruh,
Scottsdale, Arizona; Nancy Dameron, Paola, Kansas; Rowena Brown,
Lawrence, [Kansas]; and Peggy McCann, Lawrenceville, New Jersey; two
sisters, Florence Gillihan and Betty Messer of Gardner, and five
grandchildren.
Services till be at 2 pm Monday at the Bruce Chapel, Gardner; burial
in the Gardner Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 pm today at
the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City
Hospice or the church.

Beatrice Obituary:
MESSER Beatrice "Betty" McCann Messer, 86, of Panama City, Fla.,
formerly of Gardner, Kan., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008,
at the Community Health and Rehab Center, Panama City. Visitation
will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Bruce Funeral Home,
Gardner (913) 856-7111, with a Graveside service at 11 a.m. at
Gardner Cemetery, Gardner. Memorial contributions may be made to
Gardner Historical Museum. Betty was born in rural Gardner on
Sept. 24, 1921, to Michael and Emma (Bigelow) McCann. She
graduated from Gardner High School in 1939. Betty was a homemaker
and genealogist. She authored, "Kansas Saplings,"
which was a book of family ancestral research. Betty was a
lifelong area resident who moved to Florida in 1998 to be near her
family. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the
Gardner Historical Museum Society and the DAR. Preceding her in
death were her parents and siblings, Florence Gillihan and Martin
McCann. Betty is survived by her children, William V. "Bill"
Messer, Robertsdale, Ala., Martha C. Girard, Wauconda, Ill.,
Charles "Chuck" L. Messer, Port St. Joe, Fla., L. Neal Messer,
Gardner, and Connie S. Vinson, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; six
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
