He married 23 Aug 1940 Arlene Watson, born 14 Aug 1924 Ogden, Weber County, UT, the daughter of Robert Alfred and Edna Mildred (Lloyd) Watson. Arlene died 16 June 1991 (aged 66) Ogden, Weber County, UT. Carl died 05 March 1962 Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, ID. Prior to his death they divorced because Arlene married 06 Feb 1959 Robert W. Hanna, born 20 July 1922 and died 08 May 1993. The are buried at Washington Heights Memorial Park; South Ogden, Weber County, UT.

Judy Checketts, 65, of Boise, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008 at a local hospital with her family by her side. Judy was born in Portland, Ore. on May 11, 1943 to Carl and Arlene Bigelow of Shelly, Idaho. Judy married Phillip B. Checketts in 1958 while he was serving in the Navy. The couple traveled together for 20 years wherever his service might take him. Judy had three lovely children; a daughter Cathe (spouse Adrian Gravatt), and two sons; Phil (spouse Laurie) and Robb (spouse Barbara). They moved back to the Boise area in 1976 when her husband retired from the military. She worked at 20th Century Lanes for 13 years and later worked 19 years at the State Insurance Fund. She adored her three granddaughters; Danielle, Christie, and Sasha, six grandsons; Shawn, Travis, Justin, Corey, Josh, and Emillio; great-grandchildren, and her close friend Richard Schulz. Judy also loved numerous others whom she considered her sons, daughters, grand children and friends. Judy remained extremely close to her sisters; Karleen Warner and Kris Glasgow, who were also her best friends, and she was very close to their families from Utah. Judy will be remembered for her unselfishness and loving nature. She was loved by all who met her and will be remembered forever. She was preceded in death by her parents and her great grandson, Holden Lund. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 1 at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. A reception will follow at Judy's home for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
