I hope to post many photos of artwork by Daniel.
The Historical Society in Plattsburgh, NY has at least one. There are also
a number of them owned by private individuals in the Plattsburgh area. There
is also at least one in the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mt. Lake, NY as well
as his sketch book, etc. Below I will post some others that have recently
come to me through the generosity of others. Thank You all..................................ROD

I did a google search on my great grandfather, DF Bigelow, and eventually
came across your name. My Mother's father
was Louis Barnes Bigelow, who was DF Bigelow's son. My mother told the story
many times of the tragic death of Folger
Allen Bigelow. I have paintings by both Daniel Folger and Folger Allen Bigelow.

I must admit I have been remiss in not posting this painting below and info
sooner. I have had it for over a year..............ROD
Watercolor by Daniel Folger Bigelow
Dear Rod;
I have a watercolor painting which bears a signature that reads "D F Bigelow."
A newspaper clipping (Press Scimitar, Memphis, Tenn, Wednesday, August 21,
1940), attached to the back of the frame, describes the watercolor as a gift
from the widow of the artist to his grandchild.
Curiosity about both the authenticity of the signature and the value of
the work led me to your website. I thought you might like to have a picture
of the work of art as well as a copy of the newspaper clipping attached to
the back of frame.
Yours sincerely,

More: 12/02/2002:
It is a while since we corresponded.
It occured to me, today, to look at the DF Bigelow website and I saw the
picture of the watecolor sent to you.. Interestingly, there are other
emailposted from individuals in San Diego. It seems that DF Folgers
paintings have ended up here in high numbers. One of the emails referred
to the tragic death of Folger Allen Bigelow, also an artist. Are details
described in the website?
I have wondered how the watercolor
in my possession came to leave the possession of Folger H Bigelow.
Do you know what would have caused its dispersal from the family member?
I did recieve an email from a daughter of Folger Allen Bigelow, She
asked how the watercolor came to my possession.
Yours sincerely,
Francis Knowles

Hello,
I have a wonderful 16x20 oil from this artist. I am interested in finding
out more about the work and perhaps the value.
Any suggestions of how to proceed?
thanks

About forty years ago at an estate sale, I bought a beautiful oil painting
of a landscape signed by D.F. Bigelow. It
measures about 9"h x 12"l. . Recently, I began to inventory
my estate for my heirs, and have no idea as to the value of this piece.
Perhaps you might know...
Sincerely, Kimberly Madison

Another article: "Bigelow used the holiday vacation to work up some landscapes
of surpassing beauty. One is a view of the Androscoggin River in Maine. Low
hills vary the scenery, and the bright autumn tints of the foliage impart
a half sad calmness to the picture, as if regretful of the near approach of
winter. A second represents a winter scene dotted with tall, leafless trees,
and the golden sun in the west puts to shame the lurking hopes to which they
aspire. A church steeple stands like a sentinel over the little village of
country homes nestled at the foot of a hill."
( Other paintings mentioned in article: No.25 "Paradise Regained"...$75.00
sold to Arche Club.
No.12 " Early Autumn, Champlain Valley, N.Y."
No.13 " Green Mts., Vermont, from New York" all by D.F. Bigelow)

Francis wandered into Mission Gallery and recognized a DF Bigelow oil
painting. A week later, he sent pictures to me.

Dear Mr. Bigelow, I recently investigated the painter, DF Bigelow, of a
painting I inherited from my Grandmother. Enclosed is
a digital photo of the painting. I send it to you for your interest if his
works were tobe entirely cataloged. The painting was
purchased at the Plaza Art Gallery in KC, Missouri, in 1942. Sincerely,
Carol.
