15326.1     Barna 6 BIGELOW, [or Barnabas] son of Solomon 5 ( Samuel 4( Samuel 3, Samuel 2, John 1) and Sarah (NEWTON) BIGELOW, was born 11 September 1762 at Shrewsbary, Worcester county, MA. When a young man, he served in the army briefly in 1778, and afterwards moved to Paxton, MA, and was employed as a merchant. In 1784 his employers sent him out to locate a new site for a store, and after some travel, he decided to build at Brookfield, Orange county, VT. The following year he opened the store with his employers furnishing the stock. In 1788 his employers died and he was able to buy out the store, and with the increase of business, in 1800 built a larger store. This he sold in 1808 and turned to farming, which he followed the rest of his life.
     He married (1) 18 September 1794 Nabby Pride, born 17 June 1772 Norwich, CT. She died 20 January 1808 (aged 34). He married (2) 11 December 1808 Lois Griswold, born South Hadley, MA 23 January 1779, daughter of Joseph and Margery Griswold; she died at Brookfield 24 August 1870, aged 91 years. Barna died 03 April 1840 (aged 77), also at Brookfield.

   Biglo, Barna. Private, Capt. Ephraim Lyon's co, Col. Wade's regt.; enlisted June 24, 1778; discharged July 13, 1778; service, 26 days, on an alarm at Rhode Island. Roll dated Groton.
   Bigelow, Barnabas, Private, Capt. Jotham Houghton's co., Col. Nathan Sparhawk's (7th) regt., Gen. Warner's brigade; pay roll for service from Nov. 3 to Nov.19, 1778, 17 days; company detached to reinforce guards in barracks at Rutland under Col. Jacob Gerrish and to escort troops of convention to Enfield, Conn.; also, Capt. Houghton's co., Col. Samuel Denny's (2d) regt. Gen. Fellows's brigade; pay roll for service from Oct.24, 1779, 1 mo. 9 days, at Claverack. Roll dated Petersham.

15326.17t     Samuel Milton, b 11 Oct 1814; d 8 Oct 1855 Brookfield, VT; m (1)13 Dec 1836 Louisa Lyman, and (2)11 Oct 1855 Electa P. Bigelow, widow of Andrew Bigelow. 1 child.
