History of Camp Jeanne D'Arc
In the year 1922, Ruth Israel founded Camp Jeanne D'Arc at Chateaugay Lake on the West side of the Narrows.  During the previous year, Miss Israel had organized and trained thirty troops of Girl Scouts for the late Cardinal Dougherty of Philadelphia, Pa., and had a dream of founding a camp where Catholics from all over the world would live happily together
as friends.
The first church on the property was an old barn that was converted into a chapel. In 1947, the Silver Anniversary of Camp Jeanne D'Arc, a new chapel was built, which was named " Our Lady of the Snows".  The name was chosen because on the first Saturday in August, Our Lady sent real snow to Lyon Mountain.
On the date of Aug. 31, 1975, the Parish Centennial, Ruth Israel McIntyre and Colonel Charles McIntyre, will also celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at Jeanne D'Arc where they were married.  Rev. Father Francis Donnelly, S.J., of the Catholic Summer School at Cliff Haven, Plattsburgh, N.Y. offered the mass. He was served by an altar boy who was to
become Rev. Father Ambrose Hyland.  Father Hyland would later become Chaplain of Clinton Prison at Dannemora and build the first Prison Church. Father Joseph Kelley, a friend of Colonel McIntyre, officiated at this marriage in the Woodsheart Building at the Jeanne d'Arc Camp.
