was born 08 April 1918, in Monterey Township, Putnam County, OH.
She married in 1939 Howard Charles Spencer, He was born 01 October
1917 in Continental, Putnam County, OH, the son of Charles
Lester and Ether Ora (Kirkendall) Spencer. He died 05 July 1998
(aged 80) in Ottoville, Putnam County, OH. (see below) Irene died
16 November 2000 (aged 82) in Ottoville. (see below)

Irene J. "Toots" Spencer,
82, died at 5:35 p.m. Nov. 16, 2000, at her residence.
She was born April 8, 1918, in Monterey Township, Putnam County,
to William A. and Josephine Sanders Bigelow. She married Howard C.
Spencer, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spencer had worked at Niedeken Photography Studio and
Gordon's Egg Produce, both in Ottoville, and had been a dealer of
Stanley Home products for 40 years. She was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. She was a 1937
graduate of Ottoville High School.
Survivors include two sons, G. Dean (Gloria) Spencer of Ottawa and
Jimmy C. (Nancy) Spencer of Fort Jennings; a daughter, Jacqueline
(Robert) Urton of Ottoville; two sisters, Alvera Wieging of Fort
Jennings and Frances Keifer of Swanton; nine grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly J. Shade; five
brothers, Joe J. Sanders and William, Hilary, Ralph Sr. and Walter
Bigelow; three sisters, Esther Metzger, Dorothy Horstman and
Margaret Bigelow; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am. Monday at the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. The Rev. Tony
Borgia will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic
Cemetery, Ottoville.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kolkmeyer-
Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Ottoville, where a parish wake
service will be held at 8:30
a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chad L. Staib Memorial
Scholarship Fund or the Putnam County Hospice.
Howard Charles Spencer,
80, Ottoville, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998, at his
residence.
He was born in Continental on October 1, 1917, to Charles Lester
and Ether Ora Kirkendall. On May 7, 1939, he married Irene J.
Bigelow and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons. G. Dean (Gloria) Spencer,
Ottawa, and Jimmy C. (Nancy) Spencer, Ottoville; a daughter,
Jacqueline “Jackie” (Robert Sr.) Urton, Ottoville; a
granddaughter’ seven grandsons; two step granddaughters; a step
grandson; five great-grandchildren; and six step
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen (Norma) Spencer, Oakwood
and Kenneth (Ruth) Spencer, Continental.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly J. Shade; two
sisters, Lela McLaughlin and Imogene Tschann; and two
grandchildren, Chad L. Staib and Deana L. Shade.
Mr. Spencer was a truck driver for over 50 years. He was a member
of the Ft. Jennings American Legion and the Auto/Dealer
Association. He was a World War II Navy Veteran.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 1 to 9 p.m. at
Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos. Military services will be
held at 8:30 p.m. this evening.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 1998, at
Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos. Rev. Gary Beatty and
Deacon Walter Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Ottoville. Graveside Military services will be held by
Ft. Jennings American Legion.
