William 6 BIGELOW


15591.1      William 6 BIGELOW, son of William 5( Josiah 4, Thomas 3, Samuel 2, John1 and  Hepsibah (RUSSELL) BIGELOW, was born 21 Sep 1778 at Weston, Middlesex county, MA. He graduated at Harvard in 1794, studied divinity under a Rev. ______ Thayer of Lancaster, MA, then in 1796-97 was editor of the Village Messenger at Amherst, NH. He then moved to Salem, MA, where on 12 Jan 1799 he married Margaret Lander, born 1773, daughter of Peter Lander. They were a few years in Salem, after which he taught in the Boston Latin School. The late Oliver Wendell Holmes was one of his pupils, as well as Richard Everett and N.L. Frothingham. He later moved to Maine, then returned to Massachusetts and was a magazine writer of some repute. He was author of a history of Natick and Sherborn, MA. In later years he was a proof-reader and editor for different publishing houses in Boston. His wife Margaret died 25 Mar 1884 in Salem, Essex county, MA; he died 12 Jan 1844 in Boston, Suffolk county,MA.

15591.11     Elizabeth Orne, a twin, b 24 June 1799 Salem, MA; d 20 May 1803 of scarlet fever.

15591.12     Mehitable Ward, a twin, b 24 June 1799 Salem, MA; bur 25 May 1803 (died of scarlet fever).

15591.13     William, bapt 1 Nov 1801; d June 1803 of scarlet fever.

15591.14     Perkins, died young.

15591.15     Elizabeth Orne, possibly the same who married, at Natick, MA 3 May 1826, Dexter Whiting.

15591.16     Mehitable Ward?
