Stephen Ames 8 BIGELOW




15182.123     Stephen Ames 8 BIGELOW, son of Edward 7, ( William 6, Ivory 5 , Gershom 4, John 3, Samuel 2, John 1) , and Thirza (BARTLET) BIGELOW was born at Northborough, Worcester, MA on 07 October 1814. He married twice, the first marriage was to Harriet Maria Stewart on 21 May 1858. She was the daughter of George and Clarissa (Hicks) Stewart and born at Walcott, Wayne, MI on 04 June 1818. She was said to be a lineal descendant of the Scotch royal family. Earlier, at the age of sixteen, Stephen had gone into the western states where he spent nearly thirty years on the frontier among Indians, hunters and pioneers. He settled in Lawrence, KS and later lost his property at the burning of Lawrence by the guerrilla Quantrell in 1863. He moved his family to NY state and enlisted in the 98th NY Vols. and served until the close of the Civil War. In 1866, he moved to MI and settled at Williamstown, Ingham county. After 1882, he was separated from his wife and he married again ______ on 16 October 1892. This wife had been married three times before. Stephen died at Williamstown, Ingham, MI on 20 January 1909.
