Mr. Bigelow, my name is Dick Garfield, and
I ran across your GREAT site yesterday while searching under
Watertown, MA. I was born and raised in the southwestern corner of
New York State, with PA on both the south and west of us, in a 6 mile sq.
county called French Creek. As you know that when the early settlers started
moving west they traveled in groups for protection. In this cornor of the
state there is at least 15 names of families that also appear in the early
settlers of Watertown. Garfield, Whitney, Gallup and etc. In the OLD FRENCH
CREEK Cemetery, where my GrGrGrandfather is buried there is also a Mary
Bigelow who married a Merry. The front side of the marker has her listed
as his wife, and on the back it shows her maiden name. I have taken and
attached pictures of both the front and back of her stone plus the stone
of
my GrGrGrandfsther George Garfield and his wife Ann.
Also, in looking over the Garfield's listed
in your surnames I came across one that I didn't have, Susanna Hager,(gdau
of Grace Bigelow) wife of Joseph Garfield, married 1787.`Would this be
the Joseph, b.Sep 19, 1758, son of Samuel Garfield who had two wives, Hannah
Garfield & Abigail Pierce?
Also in the same cemetery there is buried
two Revolutionary War soldiers. In the next e-mail I will forward their
stone's pictures, as I can only send 3 in one e-mail.
Any help you can give me on the above Joseph
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ever so much Dick Garfield.
