 16324.2   Ephraim Bate⁶ BIGELOW, son of Ephraim ⁵ ( John ⁴ , Lieutenant John ³,Joshua², John¹), and Mary (WATERS) BIGELOW, was born in Colchester, New London co., CT 19 May 1772. His father died when he was three years old, and he was bound out at the age of seven to work on wood and lumber in Litchfield, CT. Not having the best of treatment at the hands of his master, he ran away at the age of nineteen, and went to Hoosick, NY. There, on 07 November 1792, he married Anne WAY. In 1817 he moved to Wolcott, Wayne co., NY, where he lived until his death on 29 June 1839. His wife Anne, born 04 December 1773 at Litchfield, CT, died at Wolcott 06 January 1860.They are both buried in this plot above, but appear to be replacement stone.

It is the daughter of this couple, Sarah "Sally" BIGELOW (my gt. gt. Grandmother), b 21 Mar 1802 who married widower Martin KORTRIGHT b. 20 May 1791 in Orange co, NY; d 05 Sep 1860 in Cambria twp., MI. He was the son of Moses Anthony KORTRIGHT bap. 24 Mar 1745 and married Antje Van ETTEN daughter of Anthony Van ETTEN. Dorothy has traced her KORTRIGHT line back to Jan Bastiaensen Van KORTRYK son of Sebastian Van KORTRYK, b 1618 in Leerdam, Holland.
