Subject: Bigelow Tattoo

From: "Eric Bigelow" <  big3@bellatlantic.net  >
Hi Rod:
You don't know me, but I emailed you some time ago regarding my branch's genealogical structure based on research my mother, Mary Bigelow, had done. I didn't send you that information, as I'd been informed the information was
already submitted to the forge.
About a week ago, however, I decided to have a professional tattoo done of our family's crest.  I realize this is highly unorthodox, and I wouldn't be surprised or offended at all if you weren't interested in including it on your site.  I do grant permission for this though, should you be interested in doing so.  I chose to have it placed directly between the shoulderblades,
which turned out to be 3 solid hours of excruciating pain, but these are the trials we endure for family and heritage.  I have no regrets.
At any rate, I felt you might find this interesting, and I'd imagine it's not something you see every day.  I have taken the liberty of attaching a digital photograph in .JPG format to this email, complete with an inset comparison photo of the crest which I appropriated from your website (hope that's OK!)
I'm 30, live in Fair Lawn, NJ and work for Sony Electronics.  This is my first (and probably last) tattoo.  The artistry can be credited to Jonathan Shaw at Fun City Tattoo in NYC (www.funcitytattoo.com).  He's also done tattoos for Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and a few other notables that are escaping me.  His talent is unquestionable, as you'll see.  I'm
very pleased with how it turned out.
Incidentally, I chose to omit the ram's head from the very top of the crest, as I liked the general appearance of the crest slightly better without it, and I'm ignorant to the significance of that aspect of it.  I insured that it could be added later with little effort, should I so desire.
So thanks for your time, thanks for your invaluable website, and please enjoy.
Eric Bigelow

Hi Rod - was checking the net for Dengate and came on your page - we are cousins - my mother was Frances Hunter Baker - her mother was Louise Dengate Hunter - Lillis was Mother's Aunt Lil.  I remember Roy and Bertha well - they were a part of my growing up and I loved them dearly. I live in CA and am retired now so do let me hear from you - I have Dengate in Wittersham, Kent, England

 Dear Mr. Bigelow,
I have been to the website  regarding the Bigelow family.
I have a quick question to ask you, which I hope you can be gracious enought to answer.
Can the only statue of Samuel Jones Tilden ( benefactor of the New York Public Library) be found in the at the house that Asa Bigelow built in Malden, New York ?
If so, is this place open for public visit ?  I would be grateful for any information from you.
Thank you,
Nathan Lim

 Hi,
Just got referred to your website.  Am a descendant of Jonathan Melvin of Hollis, Conway, and Phelps, NY.  We (me Phoebe and Jan Pahnke are working on a theory that:
1.  Mary Melvin who married John Bigelow may have been the dau (so far no proof) of Jonathan Melvin and Mary Brooks and the sister of Jonathan Melvin III who went to Conway and then to Phelps, etc. (he too is buried in the Melvin Hill Cemetery where Mary (Melvin) Bigelow was .

2.  Mary (Brooks) Melvin was the dau of Benjamin Brooks of Townsend

3.  After death of Jonathan Melvin, his widow, Mary (Brooks) Melvin married Moses Foster, Jr. of Ashburnham.

4.  As I recall all three families went to Conway, later, Jonathan Melvin and some of the Bigelows to Phelps and Fosters to VT.
Regards, Phoebe Cortessis in CA
