He was the son of Samuel and Rhoda ( ___ ) Carpenter and born on 27 February 1813 at Staten Island, Richmond co, NY. Mary (Polly) died at North Eaton, Lorain, OH on 04 May 1850 and is buried with James at Fields cemetery, North Ridgeville, Lorain co, OH. He died on 22 November 1890 at North Eaton, Lorain co, OH. He was a Methodist. (see below)
