John W, Obituary
Son of John and Abigail (Richardson) Bigelow.
From the "New York Tribune" (New York, NY), 28 Aug 1883:
Newport, R. I., Aug. 27. -- John W. Bigelow, of New York, was found dead in his bed at his cottage in Washington St.
In some way it was at first announced that the dead man was Joshua R. Bigelow, of Boston.
John W. Bigelow was recently rescued from drowning and at the time there was a rumor that he had attempted suicide.
His death is now attributed by some to suicide, but his friends say that he died a natural death.
It is admitted that he was financially crippled by recent reverses in mining speculations, and that he had become melancholy on that account.
From the "New York Herald," (New York, NY), 28 Aug 1883:
....He leaves a son and two daughters, one of whom (Annie) is the wife of C. F. (Charles Follen) McKim, a well known architect.
The son is also a member of Mr. McKim's firm and a member of the New York University Club.
The deceased's wife is a leader of one of the fashionable circles in Newport and a member of the Town and Country Club.
The body of Mr. Bigelow was taken to Worcester, Mass., for burial yesterday morning.

I am a  researcher at the New-York Historical Society interested in finding out information on William B. Bigelow, a New York architect who worked during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
His parents were John W. and Annie B. Bigelow and he was born in Massachusetts. He worked with McKim and Mead in the firm McKim, Mead and Bigelow in the 1870s and then as director of design with Herter Brothers.
He seems to "disappear" then.  I have traced him to Cambridge, Mass in the 1910 census where he lived in a boarding house.  If you have any information on this Bigelow I would be very grateful.
Thank you.
