Betsy (McINTOSH) BIGELOW, was born 28 December 1803 at
Ryegate, Caledonia
county, VT. He married, on 26 December 1836, Mary Charlotte
Thompson, who
was born 21 May 1821 at Corinth, VT. She was the daughter of
Deacon Daniel
and Persis (Ladd) Thompson. They lived in Ryegate, where John was
a farmer.
He was also a teacher of penmanship in Ryegate and adjoining towns
for many
years. He was a captain in the militia and town
representative in 1869.
A member of Congregational church at Barnet, Newbury 1839; and
Wells River
from 05 Sept 1840 till his death. Mary joining the Cong. church at
Newbury
an organized the Wells River congregation of 05 Sept 1840. He also
served
in the state legislature at one time. John died at Ryegate 12
April 1891,
and Mary lived in Northfield, MN after that . Mary died 28 Jan 1915 Ryegate
Corner, Caledonia County, VT. More recent residents
of John's
farm was John Davidson, and J. L. Mills.

raised a
company in Boston for the 2nd Mass. (Col. Codman), 1865, and com.
Capt. of
Co. H. by Gov. Andrew, but close of war prevented ordering into
service; graduated
Boston Dental College, 1873; practiced in Boston a few years, then
to North
Dakota and lastly since 1888 in St. Paul, MN. Retired to Palm
Beach, FL.
He had given much attention to microscopy, and was a prominent
Mason, as
well as member of several patriotic societies.

Palmer,11 Aug 1870 Horace Dean Goodhue, Jr (he b 23 Feb 1842 Westminster West, graduated Dartmouth College 1867; taught school at Wells River; became principal of Northfield MN Acadamy 1867; later made dean of faculty; Resigned 1907 after 40 years, and later became Mayor of Northfield, 1908). Horace died 31 Aug 1923 (aged 81) Hennepin County, MN. Sarah was educated at Francestown and McIndoes Academies, and Newbury Seminary; she was a teacher in various places in VT and NH and 3 years at Sterling, MA. res Northfield, MN; daughter Claribel Goodhue, b 06 Aug 1872; m 06 Aug 1900 Dr. Charles Hale Wellman (dentist). owned by J. L.Mills; the house was begun by his brother, but
completed by him; teacher of penmanship in Ryegate and adjoining
towns many years; captain in militia; town representative, 1869;
member Cong. ch. at Barnet, Newbury, 1839; Wells River, Sept. 5,
1840, till death. He married Mary Charlotte, dau. Dea. Daniel and

I am seeking information on a Sarah Arabella Bigelow who
married Horace Goodhue. I think both may have been
from Vermont...they may have married in Wells River Vermont, she
may have been from there. She had a brother named Frank.
They were probably living in Northfield Minnesota in the 1870s and
later. She also had an uncle Alex and she wrote a
letter to a A T Bigelow DDS (see above)
in Boston around 1860-1870 (the day is on the letter, but not the
year!)
Anyway, what I want to know is if she is any relation to Herbert H. Bigelow, (NO) who
was the founder
of Brown and Bigelow (on your Specific Bigelow page) Thank you
