In 1819 John Haff deeded part of his farm, probably including the front part of this building, to his son Abraham. Abraham Haff was a farmer and also a local circuit preacher. In 1852 he sold his farm to Stephen Keese Smith, who operated a station for runaway slaves. His place of concealment was in the barn that still stood on the property in 1970. His heirs owned the farm until 1947, when Walter Stafford bought it.

Rod- We have been in contact before. To refresh your
memory, I come down the Elisha Button HAFF line. Have you
had any messages regarding the HAFF family? Would like to
contact them for exchange of info. Will send a message to
John and Carol for their limb on the family tree.
Your picture on page 2 of the cemetery will be changed. I am
having Abraham's stone cleaned and Eleanor's stone repaired.
I was up to Peru last year and noticed her stone was broken in
half. Hope it gets joined together before the top half
disappears. The person who cleaned Abraham's stone said it
looks like new. He said he would send me a picture of it before
                     and after. Can't wait!!
Did you do your web page? Looks great.
                     Bob Haff.
