My wife passed away recently and looking through her jewellery collection were  two Victorian mourning rings. Gold rings with a strand of woven hair set in a series of clasps.  Typical 19th century style.  We have some family heirlooms in brooches and pendants so know the custom.  Inscribed in one was A. E Bigelow and the other A.E Bigelow - S.L Hoffman. Very neat script but the S L may have been different letters. She did not have an expensive collection as she picked up interesting pieces in estate sales and small jewellery shops.  No idea where she picked them up. Could have been back east in New England.  Jones The Jeweller, Hornby and Robson, Vancouver estimated value at $300 each.  But we do not want to sell them to any collector and would like to see them returned to the Hoffman-Bigelow descendents.        Duncan

Looking for information on Augustus Elisha Bigelow born about 1809 in Vermont. Children include Hattie b. 1851 and Louis b. 1847. Married a widow Mrs. Julia Newbury Beckwith on 31 Mar 1867 in Providence, RI. In 1870 living in Fall River, MA with wife Julia (my gr gr gr grandmother), children Hattie and Louis Bigelow, step daughters Adelaide and Clarissa Beckwith and step grandson Louis H. Martin (my great grandfather).
More:
Julia was born about 1806 or 1808. She married Ira Lewis Beckwith about 1828 possibly in Dorchester. They had 5 children. Frances - the oldest daughter - died several months after giving birth. Her son Louis H. Martin was raised by his grandparents. About 2 years after Ira died, Julia married Augustus E. Bigelow 31 Mar 1867 in Providence, RI when both were about 55 years old. I notice you had Julia married to her step son which was probably the result of sloppy writing on my part. Sorry.
I notice that you had Augustus dying in Phillipston, MA on 16 June 1885. Do you know whether Julia is buried with him? She is conspicuously absent from our family plot Lot 78 - Grace Church Cemetery, Providence, RI.
