Outings:
There are a number of museums in Plattsburgh. The Clinton County
Historical Museum, The Transportation Museum, Battle of Plattsburgh Display,
and Battle of Valcour Display.
These are all in one area at the Old Base that dates from the War of
1812. There is also the Kent DeLord House in Plattsburgh, that covers
the war years (I know the curator).
My sister's children are coming to the reunion and will be going to Ausable
Chasm on Saturday about 20 miles away near Keeseville. That would be another
option for those who want that experience.
In the afternoon, people can choose from the Museum tours, Ausable Chasm,
or the Beach nearby. I also have been in touch with a director of the Miner
Institute,
which is located about 20 miles north in Chazy. He will give me a personal
tour next week and make arrangements for our group on Sat the 19th of July
as well.
There will be information available on Friday night as to what to do on
Saturday. I recommend the Kent DeLord House. They have a still life of
Folger A. Bigelow, son of Daniel Folger.
I have videos of:
The Adirondacks,
The Rural School at Miner Instute,
The Ticonderoga, a ferry that quite a few Bigelows from Essex co, NY worked
on;
The Bigelow Mansion in Tampa, FL
There is a TV and DVD player in the meeting room and I probably could
set up another at the other end.
Directions to Chazy Lake:
From the Motel, get on 87 heading South; take the first exit 38N,
which will get you on 374 heading to Dannemora;
You proceed through Dannemora, up Dannemora Mt. (Nice spring on your left)
Continue down the mountain, about 2 miles until a road on the left that
says Wilfred King Rd
You continue on that road for about a mile or so until you see the Lake
straight ahead and a stone building.
Taking a left hander for another 0.9 miles is the Bigelow sign and the
Stoney Broke sign at 674 Wilfred King RD.
This is your destination. You may park along the road, or back at the
stone building and we will shuttle you in.
