Rod,
Thanks so much for your work on our behalf. We live in Phoenix and are
leaving tomorrow for a two week trip to Boston for a family history search.
I'll share what we find with you when we return. The information you sent
just now is a tremendous help. We have located the cemetery where Almira
Pierce Bigelow is buried with two of Levi's daughters, one from Almira and
one from Priscilla, we shall search for more. Priscilla McLallen is our ancestor.Still
chasing my tale.

Comments:
I recently purchased an antique bottle embossed “Bigelow’s Pharmacy, Newport,
Vt.” This new addition to my Bigelow bottle collection presented a challenge
for me to relate that unknown Bigelow back to John 1, but a healthy dose
of perseverance and some Internet sleuthing resulted in many facts of family
history that I believe are worthy of passing on.
The druggist in question was Charles Frederick Bigelow, born 26 Apr 1869
in Georgeville, Stanstead, Quebec, Canada. In 1893 he married Mabel
Harriet Hall, born 02 Oct 1873 in Vermont, the daughter of James R. Hall
and his wife Amie F. Hall. Charles and Mabel Bigelow had two children:
Beatrice Amy, born June 1895, and Rudolf J., born Nov 1899.
In 1869 James Hall founded Hall’s Drug Store in Newport, Vermont.
In 1886 he had a sizeable building constructed in Newport to house his drug
store, other businesses, and his residence. That drug store was ultimately
taken over by his son-in-law, Charles F. Bigelow, and re-named Bigelow’s Pharmacy.
Hence the embossing on the bottle I purchased. Charles became a prominent
business man in Newport and was president of the local bank when he died
06 May 1920. The drug store subsequently was purchased by Charles’
son-in-law, Delos M. Buck, who had married Charles’ daughter Beatrice.
Charles F. Bigelow was the son of Ezra and Mary R. (Bullock) Bigelow.
It is probable that Ezra was born in Georgeville, Quebec, as his father, Levi
Bigelow, had relocated there from Worcester, Massachusetts after his second
wife, Sulia Blake, died about 1835, and he later remarried in Quebec.
Levi was an innkeeper in Georgevill, Quebec. I have been unable to find
the name of Levi’s third wife. Ezra, who was a farmer, is buried in
Bullock Cemetery in Georgeville. His tombstone states that he was born
10 Sep 1847 and died 29 Jun 1890. His wife, Mary R. Bullock, was
She too is buried in Bullock Cemetery.
Ezra and Mary Bigelow had at least three children: Ida, born abt.
1865, Charles F., born 26 Apr 1869, and Minnie E., born abt. 1879, who at
age 18 married 09 Feb 1898 Francis N. Devall, a butcher, at Dunville, Newington,
Quebec.
So, my Bigelow’s Pharmacy bottle has told me that the lineage of Charles
F. Bigelow back to John 1 is:
Charles Frederick 8, Ezra 7, Levi 6, David 5, David 4, Daniel 3, Joshua
2, John 1.
Sincerely,
Don
(Donald E. Bigelow, Bradenton, FL)
