Joseph 5 BIGELOW


14262.    Joseph 5 BIGELOW, son of Joseph 4 (Daniel 3,Daniel2, John1) and Sarah ( STEBBINS) BIGELOW , was born 06 December 1759 in Spencer, Worcester county, MA. He served in the Revolutionary War, filling in for his injured brother James. After the war, he turned up in Mason county, KY, from where he served in the War of 1812. On 06 December 1814, in Mason county, he married Nancy Cheyney or Cheney, born circa 1790, possibly a daughter of James and Sarah (Waters) Cheney. They had 3 children born in Mason county, after which they moved to Bracken county, where Joseph died about 1833. His widow appears as head-of-family through 1850, but appears to have died before 1860.
Mass Sold & Sail of Rev War, Vol II:
           Biglow, Joseph, Spencer. Private, Capt. Ralph Earll's Co., Col. Danforth Keyes's regt.; enlisted Jly 10, 1777; discharged Jan. 3, 1778; service, 5 mos. 24 days. Roll dated Providence.
    Due to loss of county records, it is difficult to reconstruct the family, but from family records and census give the following:

14262.1    Permelia Washington, b 26 Feb 1815; d 25 Aug 1873 Robertson Co, KY;
                 m 21 Feb 1832 Charles B. DAILY. 9 children.

14262.2    Joseph, b ca 1817; was living 1879 Bracken Co, KY; m 3 Mar 1837
                 Amanda MYERS. 4 children.

14262.3    Nancy, b 1819; d 1821.

An article in Forge asked of this Joseph "did he marry and have a family in the east" when he married 1814 to Nancy Cheney, much younger than he, when he was in Kentucky and she was very young.  They lived in Mason and Bracken Counties, Kentucky and had 3 children--with Nancy. This Joseph Bigelow, #14262 R5485, was son of Joseph (Daniel, Daniel, John)

From Pam (Butcher) Shouse, 2979 Northridge, Mt. sterling, KY 40353 stating that a Joseph Bigelow, who married Lucinda, lived in Lewis, Mason or Fleming co., KY, and asks if he is the same as the Joseph who married Nancy Cheney?
