Note 06/14/07:
From: PAHNKE, JANIS < janis222@sbcglobal.net >
Back in Dec. of 1978 I was in Canton, Stark Co., Ohio, and went into the
Courthouse, looking for a death record for my Great-grandmother, whom several
records said had died in Canton. (Maria (Stout) Bigelow.) The
ONLY death record listed was for my Great-Grandfather, John (Benjamin) Bigelow.
Here is what it said:
Bigelow, J. B. , 1882 Dec. 17, married, age 78-1-2, Place of death; Canton,
O., occupation; Laborer, cause of death; {aralysis, Residence; Canton, O.,
Reported by: S. L. McDermit.
There were no other Bigelows listed, not Maria (Stout) Bigelow, nor any
other Bigelows, either. I then, checked to see the marriage records,
hoping to find a marriage record for one of their children. None were
listed, but I copied the Bigelows that were listed.
These below are the only Bigelows recorded in Stark County from Sept.
1858 till Sept. 1937
1846, Dec. 24,...Adaline Bigelow - W. H. Wares
Vol. E, page 289
1911, Oct. 17, ...Howard Bigelow - Mary A. Clark "
25 " 51
1919, Feb. 15....Lorin L. Bigelow - Jennie V. Myers "
30 " 427
1920, June 24, ..George E. Bigelow - Jennie Weakry " 32
" 222
I then decided to check the Deeds Index....looking for the property that
JB and Maria owned in Canton. Could not find it.
I thought there might have been a possibility that either my grandparents
(Frank and Anna (Sonnanstine) Bigelow owned the property, or perhaps one of
the other children of John B. and Maria, Once again, I found nothing,
but DID copy what I found. A Silas had owned property, and they had
a son Silas, but later research proved this was NOT my Silas.
Here is what was listed:
Book 11
Vol. page Lot....Value
& nbsp;
March 3, 1880..Silas, Z. M. Bigelow
to Joseph S. Brown, 167 470 171
$1.400.
Book 10
March 27, 1877, Bigelow, Zeermiah
from Ely Linus
148 403 $10,000.
April 6, 1876 , Bigelow,
Silas to French L.B.
146 5
$30,000.
I checked one of the Deeds, and found that Zermiah M. Bigelow and
Silas were husband and wife. They must have owned a bog, part of what
is now Alliance. There were other Deeds recorded for them, ...bought
and sold...but since I was interested in my family, mostly , and had limited
time there, I did not read all of their deeds, or check further....
When I read your e-mail, and noted Canton, Ohio, I checked my file, and
found the above information that I had copied back in 1978. I'm sure
some (or all) of these Bigelows are connected to the Roger Bigelow you quoted,
and since when I checked what you sent him, I realized he, and you, didn't
have some of these dates, and you might want to add them
to "The Bigelow Genealogy". I will also send a copy of this to him.

pull the wool over your eyes for to take any advantage of
you remember it all.

1883-1884 - In letter Ada (Bigelow) Huggins wrote in 1958 she says:
Pres. McKinley lived next door to us in Canton, Ohio
(John B. and Maria, Frank and Anna, and Ada) and he taught me to walk.
(Ada born 1883). . John and Maria were both blind
from cataracts, and Anna & Frank lived with them, taking care of
them. In letter in 1970 she said Bigelow grandparents lived
with Anna & Frank in Canton, Ohio. One large yard with 2 homes,
no fence between. McKinleys lived in one and they lived
in the other half of yard, (note: McKinley was a member of House of
Representatives between 1876-1890, then Gov. of Ohio,
and President 1986. He was shot 1901.)
They were members of the Adventist Church.
Elizabeth (Bigelow) Miller-Nickerson-Wood said, in 1911 when she was
84 years old, that her father’s name was John
BROOKS Bigelow, but JBB’s father’s Will lists him as John BENJAMIN Bigelow.
Perhaps he used both middle names, OR
Elizabeth was confused, since her grandmother’s maiden name was Brooks.
