Railway Chief Dies Suddenly
While preparing to leave on a three months' vacation, Alfred P.
Bigelow, general western freight agent of the Baltimore and Ohio
railroad, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his residence, 312
Belden Avenue. He had been ill for a few days and had been advised
to rest. Acute Bright's disease was the cause.
Mrs. Bigelow and the daughter, Lydia, were with him when he died.
At 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon, Mr. Bigelow complained of
faintness and became unconscious, dying an hour later. The funeral
will be at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the residence.
Mr. Bigelow was born in Zanesville, O., Oct 10, 1859. While he was
a boy his parents removed to Chicago, where he graduated from
public schools. In 1877 he entered the service of the Baltimore
and Ohio, and from 1882 to 1890 was the general western freight
agent, the highest executive official of the road west of New York
City.
Mr. Bigelow was a member of the Union League club and
vice-president of the Edgewater Golf club. Fifteen years ago he
married Miss Rebecca Richardson, niece of the late William Bush
and half-sister of Mrs. A. H. Revell. Two children were born to
them, a daughter surviving. Mrs. Bigelow and her daughter were
expected to accompany Mr. Bigelow on his vacation trip to spend
several weeks on the eastern coast.
