Galapagos Trip 2006

     We saw Red-footed Boobies, Nazca Boobies, Frigate Birds, Galapagos Doves, Short-eared Owl, Storm Petrels, and Vampire Finches that suck Booby Blood.
     Nazca Boobies were once called Grey-footed or Masked Boobies. Photos above and below show vestigal mating behavior. The male will present a twig to start the nest, which the ancestral Booby used to build. The Boobies in the present day Galapagos just lay the eggs on the ground because there were no predators and no reason to build a nest in the trees. This behavior is a carry over from those ancestral Boobies.
